Approval procedure

Before any major project or policy is initiated, municipalities have to get the approval of the voters and other areas. The Local Government Act and the Community Charter both provide an alternative approval process for municipal issues. The alternative approval process can be utilized by municipal councils in many circumstances, including when a controversial topic requires significant taxpayer investments, active public participation, or unlikely receive enough votes to pass a referendum.
